Surgical treatment of thoracic disc herniation using the anterior approach.

چکیده
Between 1970 and 1980, at the National Murayama Hospital, 15 patients with thoracic disc herniation underwent total discectomy by an anterior approach, followed by interbody fusion using autogenous ifiac bone. The results in all 15 patients were favourable. The extrapleural approach to the thoracic vertebrae is preferred because of simplified postoperative care and easier prevention of respiratory complications and is considered safe and suitable for the surgical treatment of symptomatic thoracic disc herniation.

Ultrasound-Guided Posterolateral Approach for Midline Calcified Thoracic Disc Herniation
OBJECTIVE Symptomatic thoracic disc herniation often requires prompt surgical treatment to prevent neurological deterioration and permanent deficits. Anterior approaches offer direct visualization and access to the herniated disc and anterior dura but require access surgeons and are often associated with considerable postoperative pain and pulmonary complications. A disadvantage with using post...
متن کاملIntraforaminal and extraforaminal far lateral lumbar disc herniation ( a review of 63 cases)
Abstract Background: Far lateral discal herniation is an uncommon disorder and is difficult to assess by physical examination alone. This study is designed to define clinical and epidemiological findings and to establish the indications of surgical and medical treatment for FLLDH. Methods: Between 2000 and 2005, a total of 2035 patients with lumbar disc herniation underwent surgical...
متن کاملMinimally invasive retropleural approach for central thoracic disc herniation.
BACKGROUND The management of symptomatic thoracic disc herniation (TDH) has evolved tremendously ever since the first laminectomy was performed. The last decade has witnessed the evolution of minimally invasive approaches for TDH most of which have been posterior/posterolateral. Traditional anterior approaches involve a thoracotomy or more recently, thoracoscopic techniques. The authors describ...
متن کاملSpontaneous Resolution of Symptomatic Thoracic Spine Calcified Disc Herniation: A Case Report and Literature Review
Calcification of intervertebral disc (IVD) is an uncommon but well-defined clinical syndrome in children. Despite its benign nature, occasionally, calcified nucleus pulposus can herniate into the spinal canal. We report an interesting case of calcified disc herniation in the thoracic spine. Although it resulted in cord compression and syrinx formation, it well responded to conservative manageme...
متن کاملComparison the Recurrence Rate of Intervertebral Disc Herniation in Two Surgical Methods of Hemi laminectomy and Partial Laminectomy
Background & Aims: Between 5% and 15% of patients with low back pain suffer from lumbar disc herniation, so intervertebral disc disease is one of the most common causes of low back pain. Surgical intervention for lumbar disc herniation is recommended in patients with severe symptoms and has hopeful results. Although surgery can reduce pain and improve physical function in the short term, its lo...
